16th August 2005.
Exactly 10 years ago, I stepped into my first animation school, for my first animation class. Life has never been the same since then!
Just to mark that break-away moment of my life, I felt like doing a small 24 frame comic caricaturing that journey. Please note, it's just my humble way of saying Thank You to Animation that gave my life a purpose.
So yes, my story starts with me being kicked out of my regular college. I flunked my Electronics Honors not once, twice!!
Having enough of it, I decided to finally move to Bangalore to answer my long time calling: ANIMATION!
That's when I first saw the school I wanted to study in.
And that's when I first saw the lightbox,
I immediately dreamed of creating memorable animations like the ones I grew up watching/reading
Ok, maybe it wasn't as monumental of a start as I imagined. But it was a start nonetheless.
(2005 - 2009)
And thus began my journey of learning one of the most fun crafts in the world.
Until I was declared that...
But my happiness was short lived
Just then, as I was beginning to lose hope, I found a job offer in a slightly different field, illustrations. As tough times were on, I had to take on the job. It was either that, or nothing.
It was a tearful separation from animation. But I promised I'd come back to it.
The new field was paying me well. In fact it was then when I got my...
Oh I remember that feeling of being able to buy my own stuff with my own money. Felt like a boss
Things were definitely looking up for me.
A terrible road accident changed my life forever. I lost my job, and was almost about to lose my legs.
(2009 - 2010)
It was hard getting back on my feet (literally). But I tried. As hard as I could. And I can't thank enough my family, all of my friends and of course my doctors for really helping me get back to a normal life.
Soon I was back on track. And back to animation. All thanks to a few online projects I got while on my one and half year bed rest
Things were going fine, when one fine day...
I couldn't believe how kind fate (and my friend Rekha who connected me with Vaibhav) had been to me. I was so excited, I didn't even care that I was still recovering. I just had to take it on.
And yes, I was star struck!!
(2011 - present)
And since then, it's been a wonderful journey of getting back on my feet (pun intended), And of finding myself again.
Looking back on all this today, it has definitely been a roller coaster ride. But it has also been one of the most fulfilling journeys of my life. Thank you all so very much for being a part of it. My family who supported me when I said I wanted to be an animator, my teachers who encouraged my sketching in school, my friends/mentors who added colour, spice and inspiration to this journey, everyone!
And most of all, I thank God. I've always felt Him silently guiding me through and through, during my ups and downs, making me stronger each day. I am what I am because of that.
Of course my journey doesn't end here. It only begins. Here's to more adventures and more awesomeness in the future.
Thanks for reading. :)
